Words of encouragement
I turned 27 and not too long ago I was diagnosed with a uterine fibroid a little less than 2 months ago. Mine is approximately the size of a Bible or maybe more like a short stack of pancakes- 16x15x10cm.
I want to send out words of encouragement to all the women out there with fibroids.
I haven't had my surgery yet, and I am incredibly scared. But I was fortunate enough to find a doctor who respected my wishes to have a myomectomy and not a hysterectomy.
What also has helped me was the book "Fibroids: the Complete Guide to Taking Charge of Your Physical, Emotional, and Sexual Well-Being" by Johanna Skilling. I don't intend this to be an advertisement, per se, but this book informed me of my options, gave me the information I needed to feel well-informed and thus more confident, and encouraged me to not settle for less, whatever my treatment choice ended up being- all with a slight sense of humor, which helped too.
If you have fibroids and are scared, please educate yourself, lean on family and friends and remeber "whatever doesn't kill you will make you stronger." You'll get through this.
