Myomectomy (Laparotomy)

I'm a 35 year old woman with no children. About a year ago I started noticing that my lower abdominal area was hard. Then in March of this year I started having "female" problems and my lower abdominal area was looking bloated all the time. I went to my GYN and was scared to death because I knew things were not normal. An ultrasound showed that I had a very large fibroid in my uterus. Because of the size of the fibroid, I was only given two options: hysterectomy or laparotomy myomectomy (aka C-section surgery)! I opted for the myomectomy because I want to have children. In April I had the surgery. At the time of my surgery, the doctor told me that my uterus was the equivalent to being 20-weeks pregnant. The surgery went great. My surgeon was Dr. Zbella of Clearwater, Florida and I'm so grateful to him and his team for saving my uterus. I want to have kids and I was so scared over losing my uterus. The recovery was hard for a few weeks but the worse part about the whole experience was prior to surgery and not knowing whether they would REALLY be able to save my uterus. And I didn't know anyone who ever had the experience that I was encountering. It was a very scary and emotional time for me. It's been almost 6 months since my surgery and I'm so glad to have my figure back, but most importantly be FIBROID-FREE!
