8.5cm Intramural Fibroid
Feeling scared at the moment, as I am due for an abdominal myomectomy in next 10 days, and my husband and I desperately want to have children. I am nearly 31 years old.
Went to a Dr (female) about 18 months ago reporting heavy bleeding, ovulation pain, bleeding between periods, pressure on bladder and bloating. Was told to "have a baby", as I may have Endometriosis - no ultrasound scan offered for proper diagnosis!
Tried for family afterwards as advised, but didn't conceive. My symptoms have worsened considerably since (probably due to Fibroid growth) and quality of life is very poor at the moment (in pain most of time, look pregnant, constant pressure on bladder, urinating frequently, periods so heavy they leave me washed out and have to take time off work).
Went to a different Dr(male - he was fantastic and really understanding) 3 months ago, having decided enough was enough, who immediately referred me for ultrasound. I was then told I have an 8.5cm intramural Fibroid right in the middle of my uterus and that my chances of conceiving were highly unlikely and the Fibroid should be removed because if a pregnancy did occur, then it could cause complications or miscarriage. So, thank goodness I didn't conceive!
Went on to NHS waiting list with the possibility of having to wait 8-9 months for the operation (typical UK)! I paid for a private consultation and was given a date for the operation two weeks after. Money really isn't the issue here - quality of life is far more important!
MY ADVICE TO ANY WOMAN WHO HAS THESE SYMPTOMS IS NOT TO ALLOW HERSELF TO BE FOBBED OFF BY A DR AS I DID 18 MONTHS AGO. I WISH NOW THAT I'D PAID FOR A PRIVATE ULTRASOUND WHICH WOULD ONLY HAVE COSTED £39.00 AND I COULD HAVE BEEN TREATED SOONER AND SUFFERED A LOT LESS!
Am not giving up hope for a family. Just hang in there all of you who are in the same boat - I know how some of you must feel. Take care.
