Myomectomy
I was encouraged to post my story after reading the board. I had a myomectomy in 2002, after a diagnoses of having 7 fibroids. Unfortunately, only 4 of the fibroids were removed and 3 of them returned. So, I now have 6. Over the last year, I have been told to get a hysterectomy, but I have and am refusing to get this procedure done. I am 38, with no children, but do not want to give up the option of having any. A hysterectomy is so final. So, I am now on a quest to find other options to shrink the fibroids (I did Lupron prior to the myomectomy and loved it - even with the hot flashes). Also, I didn't have any problems with my myomectomy during or after the procedure. As a matter of fact, it was the best 2 1/2 days of rest I ever had in my life (I know it's funny, but it was). If anyone is considering this procedure (myomectomy), please take the required time of bed rest even if you feel fine. I made the mistake of returning to work 2 weeks after the surgery, and I left 2 hours later because I was tired (no pain-just tired, drained). And...because I am a military dependent, we were in the middle of a transfer to Texas. Three weeks after my surgery, I received approval from my doctor to drive, but to take a break every two hours to avoid stiffness (and she was right). Don't worry, I had an in-law that eventually help with the drive. Although everyone is different, I hope my story relieve some fears about the myomectomy.
