A Total of 35 Fibroids
I have a story that I feel should be shared with other women who suffer from fibroid tumors. At the age of 25, I was first diagnosed with them and didn't even have any idea that 10 tumors were in my body. However, there were signs like heavy periods, pain during intercourse with my husband, abdominal pain as well as lower back pain. My gynecologist found one fibroid that was the size of a grapefruit. During the surgery in which an abdominal myomectomy was done, 9 more tumors were found behind the big one.
The second procedure which was done was dilation & curettage. By the age of 30, my gynecologist found 5 more fibroids. I thought, well after this there should be no more.
Then by age 35, another 8 more fibroids had grown again, in addition to an ovarian cyst. Once again, I was back in the operating room. My doctor had stated that the reason for my infertility was due to surgical scarring. I finally had to come to terms that becoming pregnant was not going to happen because my womb was said to be” too weak.”
The battle with the fibroids didn't end there by age 40 another 10 more fibroids had grown. The procedure of choice was endometrial ablation and was done on June 15th last year. However, the surgery didn't go well, for I had hemorrhaged during the operation and it was not completed.
Now at the age of 44, the problems with the fibroids still persist. Nonetheless, what I feel is important to mention, is the fact that I didn’t take the time to listen to the 7 gynecologists who had advised me years ago to have a complete hysterectomy. I believe the time has come to make this choice because I no longer wish to have any more female surgeries.
